Hansi Flick’s Punishment Revealed
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) disciplinary committee has announced the sanction for German coach Hansi Flick. The verdict: Flick will be suspended for a total of two matches.
The suspension stems from an incident during the La Liga match between Real Betis and Barcelona on December 7th. Flick was sent off for protesting to the officials. The official sanction document states that the warning was given for “protests to the referee, assistant or fourth official, with additional fines in application of Article 52 CD. (Article: 127)”.
This punishment will keep Flick away from the sidelines for two league fixtures, as Barcelona face Leganés (December 15th) and Atlético Madrid (December 21st) at Montjuïc. Barcelona considers the sanction unfair and plans to appeal. If the Appeals Committee rejects their appeal, the club can take the case to the Sports Administrative Tribunal (TAD).
It remains to be seen whether Flick will ultimately serve the suspension or if Barcelona’s efforts to overturn it will be successful.
