Gasperini’s Insights on Atalanta’s Triumph and Player Performances

Following Atalanta’s hard-fought 3-2 victory against Empoli, coach Gian Piero Gasperini shared his thoughts on the match and key players. The win propelled Atalanta back to the top of the Serie A standings, marking their 11th consecutive victory and setting a new club record with 124 goals scored in the 2024 calendar year.

Gasperini dismissed concerns about the team’s performance, stating, “I don’t think the team was less brilliant. We came back against a team that played good football. The two goals we conceded were due to a lapse in concentration, and for the first one, my players were distracted by someone in the stands playing with a ball. Winning this match was a great achievement.”

The coach praised Charles De Ketelaere, who has now tallied 10 goals and 9 assists across all competitions this season. Gasperini remarked, “He’s gained confidence and improved his heading ability, as shown today. His second goal was truly extraordinary.”

Regarding Retegui’s substitution due to a muscle issue, Gasperini reassured fans, “It doesn’t seem to be a serious problem, but he’ll be sidelined for a few days.”
