Former Lazio Player Bergodi Reveals: “Sucu Had Been Following Genoa for a Year”
Genoa, Italy’s oldest football club, has recently undergone a change in ownership. The new proprietor is Romanian entrepreneur Dan Sucu, who also owns Rapid Bucharest. While Sucu may not be a household name in Italian football circles, those who know him well assert that the 52-year-old furniture magnate had long been eyeing the Rossoblu club.
Cristiano Bergodi, who coached Rapid Bucharest last season, disclosed: “Last year, he told me he wanted to become a partner at Genoa. He asked for my opinion on this possibility. I hadn’t heard anything since then, but he was considering a partnership to enter Genoa. He mentioned it during a meeting, and now I’ve learned he’s bought the club outright!”
The former Lazio defender also shared insights into Sucu’s character: “He has substantial resources, as demonstrated in the Romanian league where he signed many important players. He’s a high-level investor. While football has many variables, he’s a manager who knows how to run a business effectively. When he took over Rapid in the second division, he brought them back to the top flight and then began making significant moves, providing financial stability.”
