Former Barcelona and Peru Striker Hugo Sotil Passes Away at 75

Hugo Sotil, a renowned former striker for Barcelona and the Peruvian national team, has passed away at the age of 75. The Catalan club’s press service announced the sad news, noting that Sotil had been admitted to a hospital in Lima on December 20th.

Sotil had a successful stint with Barcelona from 1973 to 1977. During his time with the club, he played a crucial role in helping the team secure the Spanish La Liga title in the 1973-74 season.

The talented forward was highly regarded in his home country, earning the title of Peru’s best player in both 1973 and 1974. His contributions to the national team were significant, with Sotil scoring 18 goals in 62 appearances for Peru.

Sotil’s passing marks the end of an era for both Barcelona and Peruvian football, leaving behind a legacy of skill, dedication, and memorable performances on the pitch.
