First Results of the 2024 Copa del Rey Round of 16

The round of 16 of the 2024 Copa del Rey has kicked off, with 16 teams competing between January 14-16. This stage of Spain’s knockout cup competition is especially exciting for lower division clubs, as they get the chance to face professional teams. Four clubs from lower leagues (Elche, Almería, Pontevedra and Ourense) are matched up against La Liga sides, while the remaining fixtures pit top-flight teams against each other.

In the opening match, Valencia secured a 2-0 away victory over Ourense from Primera Federación. After a tight first half, Ourense conceded an own goal early in the second period. Valencia’s new signing Umar Sadiq sealed the win with a late goal.
