Fenerbahce’s Mourinho Targets Roma Defender for January Transfer
According to recent reports, Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has set his sights on Roma defender Mario Hermoso for a potential January transfer. The Spanish center-back, who joined Roma on a free transfer last summer, has struggled to secure a regular starting position under new coach Claudio Ranieri.
Hermoso, formerly of Atletico Madrid, signed a contract with Roma until 2027. However, despite the long-term agreement, there is speculation about his future at the Italian club. The defender’s contract reportedly includes a release clause that becomes active after two seasons, but Fenerbahce may attempt to negotiate an earlier move.
Interestingly, Hermoso was close to joining Fenerbahce’s Turkish rivals Galatasaray last summer. Roma’s sporting director Florent Ghisolfi played a crucial role in securing the player’s signature for the Italian side in the final days of the transfer window.
Since joining Roma, Hermoso has made 13 appearances and scored one goal. However, his limited playing time under Ranieri has apparently caught the attention of Mourinho, who is looking to strengthen Fenerbahce’s defensive options.
As the January transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen whether Fenerbahce will make a formal offer for Hermoso and if Roma would be willing to part ways with the defender after just half a season.
