Everton Benefit from Selling Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50 Million

Everton have shown resilience this season despite selling key midfielder Amadou Onana to Aston Villa for £50 million. The sale netted the Toffees a tidy £17 million profit on the Belgian international they signed for £33 million just a year earlier.

While losing a talented young player like Onana could have derailed Everton’s season, manager Sean Dyche has steered the team to some impressive results. A recent 0-0 draw away at Arsenal highlighted Everton’s defensive solidity, with players like James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford shining.

Dyche deserves credit for how he has reshaped the midfield in Onana’s absence. Veteran Idrissa Gueye put in a dominant performance against Arsenal, winning nine duels to help shut out the Gunners. Meanwhile, winger Dwight McNeil has added attacking flair with 3 goals and 3 assists so far this campaign.

The £50 million received for Onana represents excellent business for Everton given their financial struggles. While the club would ideally have kept the 22-year-old, reinvesting the substantial profit into the squad could prove beneficial long-term.

Everton have shown in the past they can bounce back from big-name departures, such as when John Stones left for Manchester City. The current squad seems to have the resilience and talent to push on without Onana as they aim to climb the Premier League table.
