Douglas Luiz’s Persistent Injury Problems Following Juventus Move
Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz has been sidelined for a significant portion of Juventus’ current campaign, unable to participate in 11 matches across all competitions since his transfer from Aston Villa.
The former Villa player has missed 10 out of 23 games this season and will not be available for tomorrow’s away fixture against Monza at the U-Power Stadium. Juventus manager Thiago Motta confirmed Luiz’s absence during a pre-match press conference, emphasizing his preference for fully fit players in the team’s final away match of 2024.
Luiz’s move to Juventus from Aston Villa was completed last summer for €50 million. However, the Italian club effectively paid only €28 million due to the transfers of Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior to Villa Park for a combined €22 million.
Recent reports suggest that Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has offered Luiz to both Manchester United and Manchester City for a potential January transfer, indicating the club may be considering options amid the player’s ongoing fitness issues.
As Juventus prepares for their 24th match of the season across Serie A, Champions League, and Coppa Italia competitions, Luiz’s continued absence raises questions about the impact of his transfer and his ability to contribute consistently to the team’s performance.
