Dani Olmo’s Barcelona Future Hangs in the Balance

Dani Olmo’s future at Barcelona is in jeopardy as the club races against time to register him before the December 31 deadline. If unsuccessful, the Spanish international could leave the club as a free agent.

Barcelona awaits a court decision on their second lawsuit against La Liga regarding Olmo’s registration. Should the ruling be unfavorable, as expected, the club may resort to desperate measures to retain the player.

The Catalan giants are exploring various financial and legal avenues to comply with La Liga’s financial fair play rules. One potential solution involves selling VIP boxes at the future Camp Nou to Middle Eastern investors for the next 20 years. While this move could generate immediate funds for Olmo’s registration, it would impact the club’s revenue for two decades.

Olmo, who joined Barcelona last summer for €47 million plus variables, has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free if not registered by the end of the year. This clause was added in August due to concerns about Barcelona’s financial situation.

The club initially registered Olmo using a temporary exemption due to Christensen’s long-term injury. However, this arrangement expires on December 31, leaving Barcelona with limited time to secure Olmo’s future.

As the clock ticks down, Barcelona remains open to all options to retain the talented midfielder. The coming days will be crucial in determining Olmo’s fate at the club.
