Crystal Palace target loan deal for Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron
According to reports, Crystal Palace are exploring the possibility of signing Miguel Almiron on loan from Newcastle United in the January transfer window. The Paraguayan midfielder has seen his playing time reduced this season under Eddie Howe.
Almiron, who earns £60,000 per week at Newcastle, has only started 3 matches so far this campaign. The 30-year-old joined the Magpies in January 2019 from Atlanta United and has been a regular starter in previous seasons.
However, Almiron appears to have fallen down the pecking order at St. James’ Park. Newcastle are reportedly open to loaning him out for the remainder of the season as they look to trim their squad.
Crystal Palace face competition for Almiron’s signature, with Leicester City, Wolves, Marseille and Stuttgart also said to be interested. The player himself is believed to be pushing for a move to gain more regular playing time.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner could view Almiron as a useful addition to boost his attacking options for the second half of the season. The Paraguayan international has scored 30 goals in 218 appearances for Newcastle, including two winning goals against Crystal Palace.
A loan deal until the end of the season appears the most likely scenario at this stage. Palace will hope Almiron’s Premier League experience and creative abilities can help them climb the table in 2024.
