Crystal Palace Pursuing German Winger Jan-Niklas Beste for January Transfer
According to recent reports, Crystal Palace have opened discussions to acquire talented German winger Jan-Niklas Beste from Benfica during the January transfer window. The 25-year-old player has caught the attention of Palace’s recruitment team due to his impressive performances and versatility.
Despite Palace’s recent upturn in form, manager Oliver Glasner is still keen to strengthen the squad as they aim to distance themselves from the relegation zone. Beste has emerged as a prime target, with negotiations already at an advanced stage between the player’s representatives and Palace officials.
Beste joined Benfica last summer for £6.5 million but has struggled to cement a regular starting position. However, he previously excelled in Germany with 1. FC Heidenheim, contributing 20 goals and 28 assists over two seasons while helping the club earn promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time.
Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann has praised Beste’s versatility, stating: “He can play offensively or defensively, including at left-back without any issues. Additionally, he’s an exceptional set-piece taker. His goal involvements have earned him this call-up.”
Former teammates have also lauded Beste’s abilities, with Jan Schoppner describing his left foot as “worth its weight in gold.” His ex-Heidenheim manager Frank Schmidt emphasized Beste’s importance to the team, citing his consistently strong performances and great attitude.
While Benfica are open to selling Beste, they prefer a permanent transfer and hope to recoup at least their initial £6.5 million investment. Crystal Palace view the German international as a valuable addition who could provide creativity and versatility to their squad as they look to secure their Premier League status for another season.
