Cristiano Ronaldo: “I Will Never Be a Coach”
Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned as the best goalscorer of all time at the Globe Soccer Awards, among other accolades. After receiving this distinguished award, which caps off a great 2024 for him, the Portuguese star shared his thoughts on his future and various current topics in soccer.
“I’m not a coach and I will never be one”
When asked about his future after hanging up his boots, Cristiano made it clear that coaching is not in his plans, but he does see himself as a club president: “I’m not a coach and I will never be one. Maybe one day I’ll see myself as a club president, I don’t know. Clubs should take better care of their young players. They need to explore ways to protect the youngest ones, who can play at a very good level, but clubs should take better care of them, not allowing them to play so many matches per year. This can only be done by reducing the number of games, and I believe that by intelligently reducing matches and training more specifically, there will be fewer injuries and higher quality in the game.”
Ronaldo also commented on current soccer affairs
Regarding his favorite for the Champions League, Ronaldo stated: “Teams always have different moments: there are good and bad times. Now Manchester City has gone through a bad moment but they’ll come back. Real Madrid is always there. I’d bet that Real Madrid wins the Champions League again; all other teams are scared when they play against Madrid. I’d bet on Madrid because they always come back.”
On the Ballon d’Or, he said: “Vinicius… he deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. It was unfair, I’m saying this in front of everyone. Rodrygo won it, but Vinicius deserved it more as he won the Champions League and performed well in the final. That’s why I believe more in these awards.”
About Al Nassr, Ronaldo commented: “I’m very happy at Al Nassr, we’ve made great progress. The infrastructure is improving. I don’t care what people think, they should come and see it. I’m doing well and nobody knows what might happen in the future.”
