Conte Analyzes Napoli’s Win: Brilliant First Half, Disappointing Second
Napoli’s head coach Antonio Conte shared his thoughts on the team’s recent victory against Genoa, which marked his 150th win in Serie A. Conte expressed mixed feelings about the match, praising the team’s dominant first-half performance while criticizing their second-half complacency.
“Our first half was possibly the best we’ve played in terms of control and gameplay,” Conte remarked. “However, the second half is something we need to forget. We can’t afford to switch off and put everything at risk, especially considering the hard work we put in during training.”
Conte emphasized the importance of maintaining an attacking mindset throughout the game. “We must defend by attacking and dominating the match. Retreating into a defensive shell only invites pressure and shifts momentum to our opponents,” he explained.
Reflecting on his coaching journey, Conte noted, “I’ve gained extensive experience in Italy, with the national team, and particularly in England. I constantly strive to improve and challenge myself to be better than I was yesterday or last year.”
Looking ahead, Conte expressed his ambition for Napoli to be as competitive as possible this season. He stressed the importance of learning from each game, stating, “If you’re intelligent, you build something from these matches. If you only focus on the result and the three points, you don’t grow.”
Conte concluded by acknowledging his team’s ability for self-criticism and improvement. “I have a group of serious players who understand where they need to get better. Today, they’re happy with the win but also disappointed with a second half that almost cost us a seemingly secure result.”
