Chiesa’s Absence from Liverpool Bench Against Tottenham Explained
Italian international Federico Chiesa was notably absent from Liverpool’s matchday squad in their 6-3 triumph over Tottenham on Sunday. However, reliable English sources indicate this was not due to a setback in his recovery from injury.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Chiesa’s omission was part of a carefully planned approach to ensure his full recovery to peak fitness. The Athletic also confirmed that injury was not the reason for Chiesa’s absence from the team.
The former Juventus forward had recently made his return to action for Liverpool in an EFL Cup victory against Southampton after missing over two months due to fitness issues. So far this season, Chiesa has provided one assist in his four appearances for the Premier League club.
Italian national team coach Luciano Spalletti commented on Chiesa’s situation on Sunday, emphasizing that the winger needs more playing time to regain his place in the Azzurri squad. Chiesa has not featured for Italy since their EURO 2024 Round of 16 defeat to Switzerland last summer.
As Chiesa continues his journey back to full fitness, Liverpool appear to be taking a measured approach to managing his playing time and ensuring he can contribute fully when called upon.
