Chelsea’s Noni Madueke Impresses in 2-1 Victory Over Brentford
Chelsea continued their strong run of form with a 2-1 win against Brentford at Stamford Bridge, extending their winning streak to five Premier League matches. Goals from Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson secured the victory for Enzo Maresca’s side.
The Blues dominated possession and created numerous chances, taking 26 shots and generating an expected goals (xG) of 2.21. While several players performed well, winger Noni Madueke particularly stood out after recent public criticism from manager Maresca.
Madueke Responds to Manager’s Challenge
Just weeks ago, Maresca publicly stated that Madueke “can do much more,” challenging the 22-year-old to elevate his game. The winger responded emphatically against Brentford, providing the assist for Cucurella’s opening goal with a pinpoint cross.
Madueke’s overall performance was impressive, completing 94% of his passes, creating two key chances, and taking seven shots. He also won two of his four ground duels, demonstrating his work rate both on and off the ball.
Cucurella Excels Before Late Dismissal
Left-back Marc Cucurella also delivered a standout performance, scoring the opening goal with a well-timed header from Madueke’s cross. The Spaniard was crucial in maintaining Chelsea’s pressure and winning possession, contesting 14 duels throughout the match.
Cucurella’s contributions extended beyond his goal, as he made two tackles, one interception, and completed 33 of 36 passes. However, his excellent performance was marred by a second yellow card after the final whistle, ruling him out of Chelsea’s upcoming match against Everton.
With this victory, Chelsea move to within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool and four points clear of third-placed Arsenal. Maresca’s team will look to continue their strong form when they travel to Goodison Park next weekend, though they’ll have to do so without the suspended Cucurella.
