Chelsea eye £94m Martinez as potential Jackson replacement

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez as a potential upgrade over Nicolas Jackson. The Blues have had a strong season so far under manager Enzo Maresca, with Jackson showing improvement up front. However, Chelsea may look to bring in a more established goalscorer as they aim to compete for titles.

According to reports from Argentina, Chelsea are interested in Martinez and could offer “a lot of money and three players” to secure his signature. The three players mentioned are Benoit Badiashile, Carney Chukwuemeka and Mykhailo Mudryk. Martinez recently signed a new contract with Inter, so a substantial fee would likely be required.

Martinez has been in excellent form, scoring 33 goals and providing 11 assists in 65 games since the start of last season. This equates to a goal involvement every 1.47 games. In comparison, Jackson has 26 goals and 9 assists in 62 appearances, averaging a goal involvement every 1.77 games.

While Jackson has potential, Chelsea may feel they need a more proven striker to lead the line as they push for trophies. Martinez’s prolific goalscoring record suggests he could be the elite forward to take Chelsea’s attack to the next level. Though it may be a complicated and expensive deal, Chelsea appear willing to make a major move for the Argentine international.
