Chelsea considering move for “special” French defender Theo Hernandez
Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez as a potential January transfer target. The Blues are looking to strengthen their defensive options, with Ben Chilwell expected to depart the club.
According to reports, Hernandez’s contract renewal talks with Milan have stalled, putting his future at the club in doubt. The 27-year-old French international’s current deal runs until 2026, but Milan may be forced to sell if an agreement cannot be reached.
Chelsea are said to be “constantly notified” about Hernandez’s situation, having previously shown interest in the defender. His arrival could coincide with Chilwell’s exit, providing manager Enzo Maresca with another high-quality option at left-back alongside Marc Cucurella.
Dubbed a “special defender” by Milan legend Paolo Maldini, Hernandez has impressed in Serie A this season with 2 goals and 2 assists in 13 appearances. His attacking prowess and defensive solidity make him an attractive prospect for top clubs.
However, Chelsea face competition for Hernandez’s signature, with Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich also reportedly monitoring the situation. The Blues will need to act swiftly if they hope to secure the Frenchman’s services in January.
Hernandez’s potential arrival could be part of a busy transfer window for Chelsea, who are expected to be active in both incoming and outgoing deals. The club may look to offload fringe players like Christopher Nkunku, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei to make room for new signings.
As contract talks continue to stall, Hernandez’s future remains uncertain. But with his talent and potential, the French defender could prove to be an excellent addition to Chelsea’s squad as they push for Premier League success under Maresca.
