Capello criticizes Vlahovic’s reaction and expresses disappointment with Juventus performance

Former Juventus manager Fabio Capello has voiced his disapproval of Dusan Vlahovic’s reaction to being substituted during the match against Monza. Capello also admitted that he had higher expectations for Juventus’ overall performance.

Juventus secured a 2-1 victory against Monza on Sunday at the U-Power Stadium, marking a return to winning ways for the Turin-based club. However, Vlahovic, who failed to score or provide an assist, displayed visible frustration when he was taken off in the 85th minute.

Capello, speaking to the press on Tuesday, commented: “I sincerely hope Vlahovic was frustrated with himself rather than the coach. Such behavior demonstrates a lack of respect for both the manager and the teammate who replaced him. While Vlahovic may have been upset about not scoring, this reaction is unacceptable.”

Regarding Juventus’ performance, Capello noted: “Although Juventus won in Monza, their overall display wasn’t entirely convincing. They had a solid first half, with Koopmeiners performing well in central midfield. However, in the final 25 minutes, they resorted to defensive tactics, retreating deep into their own box. I had anticipated a different approach from the team.”

Despite remaining undefeated in Serie A, Juventus finds themselves nine points behind league leaders Atalanta. Inter Milan and Napoli are currently the closest challengers for the top spot, with all three teams securing victories in the most recent round of matches.

Capello acknowledged the challenges faced by top teams in the latest fixtures: “Napoli struggled against Genoa, but all the leading teams faced difficulties in their matches. Even Atalanta had a tough time against Empoli. Napoli’s first-half performance was excellent, but goalkeeper Meret proved crucial in the second half. Nevertheless, winning such challenging games is a positive sign as it strengthens team unity.”

Looking ahead, Juventus is set to host Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium in the upcoming Serie A round. The new year will kick off with the Rome derby on January 5, followed by the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh, featuring Inter, Milan, Atalanta, and Juventus.
