Calafiori Set for Arsenal Return After Third Injury Setback

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has announced that Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori is fit to return to action following his third injury absence since joining the club. The 22-year-old center-back will be available for selection when Arsenal face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Calafiori, who signed for Arsenal from Bologna for €50 million last summer, has endured a stop-start beginning to his career in North London due to recurring fitness issues. He has already missed several matches across all competitions this season due to various minor injuries.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Arteta confirmed: “Both [Calafiori and Declan Rice] are available to be in the squad.” This news will be welcomed by Arsenal fans, as Calafiori’s return bolsters the team’s defensive options for the crucial away fixture at Selhurst Park.

Since his arrival, Calafiori has faced three separate injury setbacks – a calf problem in September, a knee issue in late October, and most recently an unspecified injury that sidelined him for five matches. Despite these challenges, the young Italian international remains a key part of Arteta’s plans for the season.

Arsenal will be hoping Calafiori can now maintain his fitness and establish himself in the team as they continue to compete on multiple fronts. The match against Crystal Palace kicks off at 17:30 GMT on Saturday, with Arsenal looking to strengthen their position in the Premier League table.
