Benfica’s head coach Bruno Lage has issued a stern warning to Juventus, stating that any club interested in acquiring Antonio Silva must be prepared to pay his full release clause.

Despite recent reports suggesting that the 21-year-old Portuguese defender is keen on joining Juventus during the January transfer window, Lage remains firm on Benfica’s position.

“We have no concerns for two main reasons,” Lage stated during a press conference. “Firstly, no one has approached me about this matter. Secondly, I see the player fully committed to Benfica.”

Lage emphasized that Silva continues to focus on improving his skills, participating in specific training exercises to enhance his versatility in defensive positions.

The coach also addressed the nature of potential transfer deals, noting, “Those without contracts can freely decide their future at season’s end, while those under contract must adhere to their release clauses.”

Lage was explicit about Benfica’s stance on transfers: “One thing is certain – those wanting Benfica players must come with substantial funds. This has been the case in recent years, and it will likely continue with Antonio or other players like Tomás Araujo.”

Silva’s current contract with Benfica extends until 2027, with Portuguese media reporting his release clause at €100 million. However, the young talent has seen limited playing time this season under Lage’s management.

Juventus is reportedly in need of defensive reinforcements due to injuries to key players like Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal, making Silva an attractive prospect for the Italian club.
