Balotelli Expresses Frustration with Genoa in Social Media Post
Mario Balotelli has taken to social media to voice his frustration with his current situation at Genoa FC. The Italian striker insisted he remains a Genoa player “even if some people don’t want it,” seemingly taking aim at the club’s management.
Since joining Genoa in 2024, Balotelli has struggled to secure regular playing time. The 34-year-old signed a contract through the end of the season in October but has only made six appearances totaling 56 minutes for the club.
In his latest Instagram story, Balotelli wrote: “Please don’t start speculating about where I’ll go or what I’ll do. I am still a Genoa player, even if some wouldn’t want that to be the case. Most importantly, I respect the fans and the ‘club.'” His use of quotation marks around the word “club” suggests dissatisfaction with Genoa’s leadership.
Balotelli was initially brought to Genoa by former coach Alberto Gilardino in October. However, Gilardino was replaced by Patrick Vieira just days later. Balotelli and Vieira had previously worked together at Nice, but their relationship was reportedly strained, with Balotelli citing Vieira as the reason for his departure from the French club.
The striker has not featured in Genoa’s last four league matches, with his most recent appearance coming on December 21 against Napoli, where he played for only seven minutes. This lack of playing time appears to be fueling Balotelli’s frustration with the club.
