Aston Villa reach agreement to sign talented young Turkish defender
Aston Villa have reportedly struck a deal worth around £6.6 million to bring in promising 18-year-old center-back Yasin Ozcan from Turkish club Kasimpasa. According to sources in Turkey, Ozcan is expected to travel to England in early January to complete a medical and finalize the transfer.
The teenager has impressed as a regular starter for Kasimpasa this season, featuring in all 16 of their league matches so far. Scouts have praised Ozcan’s pace, tenacity and positional awareness, with some dubbing him “the future of Turkish football”.
While Ozcan primarily plays as a left-sided center-back, he can also fill in at left-back if needed. However, with established options like Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres already at Villa Park, it remains to be seen whether Ozcan will go straight into the first-team squad or potentially be loaned out for more experience.
The signing of Ozcan continues Villa’s recent trend of targeting young talent from the Turkish Super Lig. Manager Unai Emery appears keen to bolster his defensive options as the club push for Champions League qualification this season.
If the deal goes through as expected, Ozcan could become Villa’s first signing of the January transfer window. The club will hope he can follow in the footsteps of other successful young recruits in recent years as they look to establish themselves as a top Premier League side.
