Arteta Should Release Underperforming Arsenal Player

Arsenal’s offensive output has declined this season compared to last year. While still in the Premier League title race, the team looks less threatening in attack than in recent seasons. Arsenal are currently the fifth highest scoring team in the league, which is concerning for a side with title aspirations.

The team’s top scorers in the league are Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz with 5 goals each in 15 appearances. However, the next highest scorers only have 3 goals, including Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhães. This lack of consistent goal scoring across the squad is problematic.

Arsenal signed Raheem Sterling over the summer to provide more attacking depth, but he has barely featured for the team. Sterling has made just 10 appearances totaling 356 minutes, scoring one goal against a League One side. For a player of Sterling’s caliber and experience, his lack of impact has been disappointing.

Manager Mikel Arteta does not seem to trust Sterling, making the decision to sign him look like a mistake. Content creator Connor Humm called it an “absolute waste of time and money.” With Arsenal’s attacking struggles, it’s clear Arteta does not view Sterling as part of the solution.

If Sterling continues to play such a minor role, Arsenal should look to cancel his loan deal in January. Having a high-profile player consistently on the bench is not good for squad morale. Releasing Sterling would allow Arsenal to potentially bring in a new attacking option who better fits Arteta’s plans.
