Arsenal Targeting Top Left-Back Talent to Boost Trossard’s Performance
Arsenal’s Premier League campaign has fallen short of expectations this season. Despite hoping to challenge Manchester City for the title, Mikel Arteta’s side now find themselves six points behind leaders Liverpool. This dip in form can be attributed to various factors, including suspensions, injuries, and a lack of cutting edge in attack, particularly from left-sided players like Leandro Trossard.
Recent reports linking Arsenal to an exciting left-sided prospect should encourage Gunners fans, as this player could potentially reinvigorate Trossard’s performances.
According to Caught Offside, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Club Brugge’s talented full-back Maxim De Cuyper. While Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested, the Gunners appear to be frontrunners for the 24-year-old’s signature.
Though no price has been mentioned, it’s unlikely to be an exorbitant fee given Club Brugge’s transfer history and De Cuyper’s current market value of around £10 million.
De Cuyper’s versatility allows him to play on either side of defense or further up the pitch, but left-back is his preferred position. His attacking prowess from this role could greatly benefit Arsenal’s left wingers, including Trossard.
The Belgian defender has already contributed one goal and four assists in 24 appearances this season. His underlying statistics are even more impressive, ranking in the top percentiles among full-backs for key attacking metrics like shot-creating actions, progressive passes, and expected goals plus assists.
With Arsenal’s left flank underperforming, signing an attacking-minded full-back like De Cuyper could be the key to unlocking the potential of their current forwards rather than pursuing another attacker. Arteta and the Arsenal board would be wise to prioritize this transfer as soon as possible.
