Arsenal targeting prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres in £54m deal
Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres for a fee of £54 million. The Swedish forward has been in incredible form over the past 18 months, outscoring even Manchester City’s Erling Haaland.
After Arsenal’s recent goalless draw with Everton, questions were raised about the quality of Mikel Arteta’s attacking options. While Gabriel Jesus has found form recently with 5 goals in 2 games, the Gunners are still looking to bolster their frontline.
Gyokeres has scored an impressive 70 goals in 75 games since the start of last season. This tally surpasses Haaland’s 56 goals and far exceeds the 36 scored by Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in the same period.
The 25-year-old Swede also offers more to his team’s build-up play compared to Haaland. Statistics show Gyokeres provides more key passes, progressive passes and shot-creating actions per 90 minutes than the Norwegian.
While Isak has Premier League experience, Gyokeres’ durability is superior – he didn’t miss a single match last season. His combination of goalscoring prowess, creative play and availability make him an extremely attractive option for Arsenal.
If Arteta can bring Gyokeres to the Emirates, he may have one of the most lethal forwards in England on his hands. The Swedish striker’s all-round game and prolific scoring record suggest he could be the final piece of the puzzle in Arsenal’s title ambitions.
