Arsenal target £59m “monster” striker to revitalize attack
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško as they look to upgrade their attack and help get the best out of captain Martin Odegaard.
According to reports, Arsenal want to bring in the 20-year-old Slovenian forward, who has been described as a “monster” by analysts. Leipzig are said to value Šeško at around £59 million.
While Arsenal’s board would prefer to wait until the summer to make a major signing, their recent poor form may force them to act in the January window. Defeats to Newcastle and Manchester United have left their season hanging in the balance.
Šeško could be an upgrade on current striker Kai Havertz and help revitalize Odegaard’s form. The Slovenian has 12 goals and 3 assists in 24 appearances this season, averaging a goal involvement every 112 minutes compared to Havertz’s 148 minutes.
Underlying stats also show Šeško to be a more clinical finisher than Havertz. He has 7 league goals from an expected goals (xG) tally of just 4.61 this season. Last season he scored 14 goals from an xG of 8.60.
In contrast, Havertz has underperformed his xG in both seasons at Arsenal. His poor finishing is now undeniable, while Šeško has proven to be a deadly finisher.
Bringing in Šeško could give Arsenal the clinical striker they need to capitalize on the chances created by Odegaard and others. His arrival could be key to reviving Arsenal’s faltering season if they can get a deal done this month.
