Arsenal Eyeing £77m “Superstar” Striker Coveted by Man City
Arsenal are preparing for their upcoming EFL Cup quarter-final match against Crystal Palace as manager Mikel Arteta grows increasingly frustrated with his team’s lack of scoring from open play. The Gunners have relied heavily on set pieces for goals this season.
Key attackers like Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have faced criticism for not producing enough in the final third. Arsenal legend Thierry Henry recently called out Martinelli specifically for his poor decision-making.
With Manchester City also struggling for form, Arsenal recognize this season presents a golden opportunity to end their Premier League title drought. Arteta may look to strengthen his forward options in the January transfer window.
Arsenal Target PSG Striker for January Move
Arsenal’s 0-0 draw at home to Everton highlighted their offensive struggles this season. The Gunners have scored just 29 league goals so far, ranking 8th in the Premier League.
According to reports from Spain, Arsenal are pursuing a move for PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani. The French international has struggled to make an impact in Paris this season, scoring just twice in 10 appearances.
PSG are reportedly open to offers for Kolo Muani and would consider various deal structures, including a loan with an option to buy. Both Manchester clubs are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old forward.
Kolo Muani Could Replicate Aubameyang’s Impact
This would not be the first time Arsenal have signed a high-profile striker in January to inject life into their season. In 2018, the Gunners brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund on deadline day.
Aubameyang made an instant impact, scoring 10 goals in just 13 league games to help Arsenal secure a Europa League spot. He went on to captain the club and score 92 goals in 163 appearances, including leading Arsenal to FA Cup glory in 2020.
While Aubameyang holds the edge in goals scored, statistics suggest Kolo Muani could be the more complete striker. The £77m Frenchman outperforms Aubameyang this season in assists, progressive passes, shots on target percentage, and aerial duels won.
Kolo Muani would offer Arsenal a different dimension in attack, potentially providing the firepower Arteta needs to end the club’s 20-year Premier League title drought. His aerial prowess could be particularly valuable given the number of crosses supplied by Bukayo Saka and others.
