Anguissa Reveals Insights on Napoli’s Approach and Conte’s Demands
In an exclusive interview, Napoli midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa shared his thoughts on the team’s tactics, Coach Antonio Conte’s expectations, and his relationship with former Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira.
Anguissa emphasized the importance of team success over personal goals: “When I play, I don’t focus on scoring. The most crucial thing is for the team to win. Today’s midfielders must do everything, and that’s what I strive for. The coach tells me I should score more, aiming for eight goals per season. While I’m happy when I score, the team always comes first.”
Regarding Napoli’s upcoming match against Genoa, Anguissa stressed the team’s winning mentality: “We approach every game intending to win, regardless of the opponent. Our focus is on executing our game plan and tactical setup as prepared with the coach.”
The midfielder also spoke about his admiration for Patrick Vieira: “I have great respect for him as a person. We met in London when he was Crystal Palace’s manager and wanted to sign me. I enjoy our conversations because of his many ideas and his human qualities.”
On Conte’s coaching style, Anguissa revealed: “Conte asks me not to be lazy. He’s a fantastic coach who always demands 200% from us. His tactical requests vary based on the match and opponents. He emphasizes personality and technical proficiency.”
Anguissa explained Napoli’s defensive success: “It’s about defending as a unit. Conte focuses on defensive aspects, but not just for the backline. The entire team defends together and attacks together. That’s always been his philosophy.”
The midfielder also praised his teammate Lobotka: “I love him as a person. He’s always calm, which is evident on the field. He’s never afraid to do things few others would attempt. We understand each other instinctively.”
