Amorim’s Dream First Signing: Man Utd Could Replace Zirkzee with the Next Ibrahimovic

Amorim’s Dream First Signing: Man Utd Could Replace Zirkzee with the Next Ibrahimovic

As 2025 approaches, Manchester United fans are eager to forget a disappointing 2024 that saw manager Erik ten Hag dismissed despite winning the FA Cup. New boss Ruben Amorim has brought fresh ideas, but results remain inconsistent with United languishing in 13th place.

The 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth highlighted United’s ongoing attacking woes. Having scored just 21 league goals, United are level with Leicester City and behind relegation-threatened Wolves. This lack of firepower is a major concern for Amorim.

At Sporting CP, Amorim’s success was built around prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres. Now at United, there are reports linking the club with a move for Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.

Valued at around £62 million, Osimhen could be the clinical finisher United desperately need. He has already scored 12 goals in 15 games for Galatasaray this season, more than United’s Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined.

Osimhen’s goalscoring prowess is clear – he netted 76 times in 133 games for Napoli. In comparison, Hojlund has just 50 career goals while Zirkzee has only 40. Last season’s Serie A stats highlight the gap in quality, with Osimhen far more clinical in front of goal.

Former Charleroi manager Felice Mazzu likened Osimhen to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, praising his explosiveness, physical strength and confidence. Ibrahimovic made a huge impact at United, scoring 28 goals in 2016/17. Amorim will hope Osimhen can have a similar effect and finally give United the world-class striker they’ve lacked since Ibrahimovic and Robin van Persie.

Signing Osimhen could be the perfect first transfer for Amorim to kickstart his United reign and solve their goalscoring issues. The Nigerian has the potential to be their next Ibrahimovic and fire United back up the table.
