Alex Jimenez: Milan’s Rising Star Impresses Against Genoa
In a matter of days, Alex Jimenez has gone from playing in Serie C to potentially earning a starting spot for AC Milan. The 18-year-old Spanish defender captivated the San Siro crowd with his performance against Genoa last Sunday, filling in for the benched Theo Hernandez.
Jimenez’s sudden rise comes as a surprise, especially considering recent transfer rumors linking him with a move away from Milan. Valencia had reportedly shown interest in a loan deal, while Monza has now entered the picture as they seek reinforcements to avoid relegation.
Coach Paulo Fonseca may opt to start Jimenez again in the upcoming match against Verona, potentially keeping Theo Hernandez on the bench. Since joining Milan, Jimenez has featured in 19 youth team matches, 17 games for Milan Futuro in Serie C, and made 6 appearances for the first team.
Milan secured Jimenez’s services permanently last summer for €5 million, signing him to a contract through 2028 with an option for an additional year. Real Madrid, his former club, retains a buyback option until 2026.
