AC Milan’s Struggles: Time for Decisive Action
The holiday season brings little cheer for AC Milan supporters. The team’s current eighth place in Serie A is a situation few could have predicted. Milan finds itself behind Bologna, Fiorentina, and Lazio, having fallen out of the title race prematurely. While fans understand that constant victory is unrealistic, they reasonably expect to remain competitive throughout the season.
As the January transfer window approaches, two key wishes emerge for the club:
1. The acquisition of a skilled midfielder. With Bennacer’s return from injury uncertain, a ready and capable player in this position is crucial. However, it’s likely that any new signing will be a promising young talent rather than an established star.
2. The appointment of a high-caliber sporting director. This role, previously held by D’Ottavio with limited influence, is currently vacant. The hope is for a truly experienced and competent individual to fill this position, elevating the club’s overall management.
While owner Cardinale speaks of “winning intelligently,” the lack of recent success calls for a renewed focus on experience and expertise. Bringing in a top-tier sporting director could address many of the current management issues that have led to disappointing results.
Milan’s eighth-place standing is deeply concerning. Without targeted improvements, particularly in midfield and management, even Champions League qualification could be at risk. The addition of a quality midfielder and an experienced sporting director could be key to resolving several of the team’s current challenges.
