AC Milan’s January Transfer Window Priorities: Midfield Reinforcement and In-House Option

As the January transfer window approaches, AC Milan is considering ways to bolster their squad, particularly in midfield, following an inconsistent start to the 2024-25 season under Paulo Fonseca’s leadership. The Rossoneri currently sit eighth in the Serie A standings after 17 matches.

Milan’s Transfer Window Focus

The midfield appears to be Milan’s primary concern for the upcoming transfer window. Despite the successful acquisitions of Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana, Fonseca has had limited rotation options in this area. Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains on the roster, and Ismael Bennacer’s return from injury could provide a boost akin to a new signing.

Several midfield targets have been linked with Milan, including Genoa’s Morten Frendrup and Monza’s Warren Bondo. While other positions may need addressing in the future, they are less likely to be prioritized in January.

The attack could potentially see some changes, with Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze struggling to maintain favor. A new right-back might be considered if Davide Calabria’s contract, set to expire after the 2024-25 season, is not extended. The need for a backup left-back has become less urgent due to Alex Jimenez’s promising performances in recent weeks.

As Milan navigates the January transfer window, their focus on midfield reinforcement and the potential return of Bennacer could prove crucial in improving their league position and overall performance for the remainder of the season.
