AC Milan close to acquiring Chelsea midfielder on loan

AC Milan are reportedly on the verge of signing Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei on a loan deal. According to reports from Spain, the transfer could potentially be finalized “in the next few days.”

The 21-year-old Italian has struggled to break into Chelsea’s first team this season, mainly featuring in Europa Conference League matches. A temporary move back to Serie A has been rumored for some time as Casadei looks for more consistent playing time.

Milan have previously expressed interest in Casadei, while fellow Italian club Monza have also been linked with a move for the young midfielder. A return to Italy seems likely for Casadei, who joined Chelsea from Inter Milan for £17 million in 2022.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is familiar with Casadei from their time together at Leicester City last season. However, the player has not been able to establish himself as a regular in Chelsea’s squad. A loan move could benefit all parties by allowing Casadei to gain more experience and playing time.

If the deal goes through as reported, it would mark a quick return to Serie A for Casadei less than 18 months after his big-money move to Stamford Bridge. The midfielder will hope a loan spell can help him develop and eventually break through at Chelsea.
