Rennes Nears €12 Million Deal for Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi
French Ligue 1 side Rennes is on the verge of securing the services of Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi from Celtic FC. According to recent reports, the two clubs have reached an agreement for a transfer fee of €12 million.
Furuhashi, 29, has been a standout performer for Celtic this season, netting 12 goals and providing 4 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. The Japan international’s current contract with the Scottish champions runs until 2027.
Sources suggest that Furuhashi’s final match for Celtic may have been the recent 1-0 Champions League fixture against Young Boys. His potential arrival at Rennes would mark the club’s third signing of the winter transfer window, following the acquisitions of French goalkeeper Brice Samba and Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana.
Rennes’ pursuit of Furuhashi comes as the club seeks to strengthen its attacking options under manager Jorge Sampaoli. The team has been actively scouting for a striker to compete with French U21 international Arnaud Kalimuendo, especially given the recent form struggles of Algerian forward Amine Gouiri and the loan departure of young talent Henrik Meister to Serie B side Pisa SC.
As Furuhashi prepares for a potential move to France, former Celtic fan favorite Jota is reportedly set to make a return to the Scottish club from Rennes, adding an interesting dynamic to the transfer dealings between the two sides.
