Newcastle may sell £25m player alongside Almiron, intermediaries suggest

According to recent reports, Newcastle United might be looking to offload more than just Miguel Almiron in the January transfer window. Intermediaries familiar with the situation believe the club could also be open to selling a £25 million player who has grown frustrated with his lack of playing time.

The player in question is Lloyd Kelly, who joined Newcastle in the summer of 2024 as one of Paul Mitchell’s few signings. Despite his hefty price tag, Kelly has struggled to break into the starting lineup, making only four Premier League starts this season.

Several clubs, including Fenerbahce and Juventus, have expressed interest in Kelly. While Newcastle rejected an initial approach from Juventus, sources suggest a deal could be possible if an offer around £25 million is made.

Kelly’s versatility as both a center-back and left-back makes him a valuable squad player. However, his limited playing time behind established defenders like Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, and Sven Botman has led to his discontent.

Newcastle face a dilemma in deciding whether to keep Kelly for squad depth or cash in on a player who is unhappy with his current role. With Kelly under contract until 2029, the club is in a strong position to negotiate a favorable deal if they choose to sell.

As the January transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle will part ways with Kelly or if manager Eddie Howe can find a way to integrate him more into the team’s plans for the remainder of the season.
