Wolves in Prime Position to Acquire Speedy Center-Back in January
Wolverhampton Wanderers have emerged as the leading contenders to sign RC Lens defender Kevin Danso during the January transfer window. The Premier League club is looking to strengthen their backline as they battle to avoid relegation.
New Wolves manager Vitor Pereira got off to an ideal start with a 3-0 victory over fellow strugglers Leicester City in his first match in charge. The win moved Wolves out of the relegation zone, but Pereira is keen to bring in reinforcements to help secure the club’s top-flight status.
According to reports, Wolves have identified Danso as their top defensive target and have held internal talks about pursuing a move for the Austrian international. Lens are believed to be open to selling either Danso or his defensive partner Abdukodir Khusanov to raise funds.
At 6’2″ tall, Danso would bring athleticism and pace to the Wolves defense. He recorded one of the fastest top speeds at Euro 2024 qualifiers, clocking 33.3 km/h – quicker than renowned defenders like William Saliba and Virgil van Dijk.
With Wolves still looking to fill the void left by Max Kilman’s departure, Danso could prove to be the ideal replacement to shore up their backline. His speed and physical presence could be crucial assets as Wolves aim to climb further away from the relegation zone in the second half of the season.
While no potential transfer fee has been mentioned, Danso still has over two years remaining on his current contract at Lens. The French club have reportedly tasked super-agent Jorge Mendes with finding a new club for Danso, which may work in Wolves’ favor given their past dealings with Mendes.
If Wolves can complete a deal for Danso in January, it could prove to be a key signing in their bid for Premier League survival under new manager Pereira. The rapid center-back appears to have the attributes needed to make an immediate impact in England’s top flight.
