Arsenal in talks to sign versatile attacker Dani Olmo on free transfer
Arsenal are reportedly in discussions to sign Barcelona star Dani Olmo, potentially on a free transfer in January. The Spanish attacker is seen as a hybrid of key Arsenal players Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Olmo’s registration with Barcelona is in doubt ahead of the January 31st deadline. If not registered, the £52 million signing could leave for free next month. Arsenal are said to have already made an attractive financial offer to the player.
The 25-year-old combines traits of both Saka and Odegaard in his playing style. Like Saka, Olmo posts similar underlying metrics in areas like expected goals and assists, shots on target, and successful take-ons. And like Odegaard, he can play centrally or out wide, often starting in attacking midfield before drifting into space.
This season, Olmo has 6 goals and 1 assist in 15 appearances for Barcelona. His versatility and productivity make him an appealing option for Arsenal, especially if available on a free transfer.
With Saka currently injured and set to miss several weeks, Arsenal are in need of attacking reinforcements. Signing a player of Olmo’s caliber without a transfer fee would represent excellent business for the Gunners as they look to bolster their squad for a title challenge.
