PSG Considers Marco Asensio’s Future Amid Limited Playing Time
Marco Asensio, the 28-year-old Spanish midfielder who joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a free transfer from Real Madrid in mid-2023, has found himself in a challenging position. Despite proving to be a valuable squad player, recent reports suggest that PSG might be willing to part ways with Asensio, potentially as soon as the upcoming transfer window.
Since his arrival at the Parc des Princes, Asensio has made 46 appearances for the French champions, contributing seven goals and 11 assists across all competitions. In the current season, he has featured in 15 matches, scoring twice and providing four assists in Ligue 1. However, many of these appearances have been as a substitute.
Under manager Luis Enrique, Asensio has often been deployed as a false 9, a role also filled by teammates Lee Kang-in and Ousmane Dembélé. The recent return from injury of Gonçalo Ramos, who now appears to be the preferred choice to lead PSG’s attack, may further impact Asensio’s playing time.
While PSG has not explicitly asked Asensio to leave, the club is reportedly open to his departure if he expresses a desire to move on. This situation highlights the competitive nature of PSG’s squad and the challenges faced by players in securing regular playing time at one of Europe’s top clubs.
As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Asensio’s next move and whether he will continue his career at PSG or seek opportunities elsewhere to gain more consistent playing time.
