Slot’s Liverpool Now Has a Star Playing Like the “Old Firmino”

Liverpool extended their Premier League lead to four points with an emphatic 6-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. While Mohamed Salah continued his stellar form with two goals and two assists, it was Luis Diaz who drew comparisons to Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino.

Playing in a central forward role, Diaz opened the scoring with a header and went on to have an impressive all-around performance. Commentator Gary Neville noted that Diaz played like the “Roberto Firmino of old,” dropping deep and roaming freely in midfield.

Manager Arne Slot may have found a new permanent option up front in Diaz. The Colombian registered seven shots from just 47 touches and completed 88% of his passes. His brace ended a Premier League scoring drought dating back to September.

Diaz now has five goals in five appearances as a striker for Liverpool. While most of his 35 total goals have come from the left wing, Slot would be wise to continue deploying Diaz centrally given his recent form.

If Diaz can replicate Firmino’s goalscoring prowess from the striker position, it could be a game-changer for Liverpool’s attack. The Brazilian icon netted 90 goals during his celebrated Anfield career.

With Diaz finding his scoring touch again, Liverpool will look to continue their strong form when they face Leicester City on Boxing Day. Slot will hope his new-look frontline can propel the Reds to more emphatic victories as they push for the Premier League title.
