Liverpool Eyeing “Monster” £178k-per-week Robertson Upgrade

Liverpool are reportedly considering Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies as a potential replacement for Andy Robertson at left-back. The lightning-fast Canadian international could be available on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Robertson has been a key player for Liverpool since joining in 2017, but at age 30, there are signs his performances may be declining. The Scotsman has struggled with injuries and form this season, leading to speculation about his long-term future at Anfield.

Davies, still only 24, is regarded as one of the best left-backs in world football. His blistering pace and attacking ability have made him a standout performer for Bayern Munich in recent years. Statistically, Davies outperforms Robertson in almost every metric this season:

  • Davies averages 1.8 successful dribbles per game compared to Robertson’s 0.2
  • The Canadian makes 2.1 tackles/interceptions per match vs Robertson’s 1.6
  • Davies completes 92% of his passes compared to 88% for Robertson

While Davies’ £178,000 per week wages could be an obstacle, the opportunity to sign a world-class talent for free may be too good for Liverpool to pass up. His signing would be a statement of intent as the Reds look to remain competitive at the highest level under new manager Arne Slot.

The main competition for Davies’ signature appears to be Real Madrid, though recent reports suggest the Spanish giants may be deterred by his salary demands. This could open the door for Liverpool to swoop in and secure a ready-made replacement for the aging Robertson.

Bringing in Davies would inject pace and dynamism into Liverpool’s left flank for years to come. While Robertson has been a fantastic servant, the chance to upgrade with a younger model may prove irresistible as the Reds plan for sustained success in the post-Klopp era.
