Lazio’s Flaminio Stadium Project: Unfazed by Roma Nuoto’s Approval

The Conference of Services recently approved Roma Nuoto’s project for renovating the Flaminio Stadium. While this might seem like a setback for Lazio, who recently submitted their own feasibility study to the Capitol, the situation remains largely unchanged for Claudio Lotito’s club. The Lazio president has repeatedly expressed his lack of concern regarding other competitors’ legitimate pursuits.

Roma Nuoto aims to transform the Flaminio into a new multi-sports center. Their project, following a successful appeal to the Administrative Court, has been positively evaluated by the Conference of Services. The decision now lies with the Capitoline Assembly. Although this process is more advanced than Lazio’s, the assembly’s deliberation is expected to take 30-40 days, allowing sufficient time for Lazio’s project to be assessed by the Conference of Services as well.

If no negative feedback is received, both projects could potentially reach the Capitoline Assembly by late winter. The final decision would then be a political choice made by the municipality, as the owner of the Flaminio Stadium, to determine who will oversee the renovation and redevelopment of the property.

Roma Nuoto’s project focuses primarily on the structure itself, with a total investment of 55 million euros. In contrast, Lazio’s proposal is more comprehensive, including the redevelopment of the surrounding area, with Lotito mentioning an investment of at least 400 million euros. The latter would have a more significant impact and potentially greater urban implications, including considerations from the Nervi Foundation, which oversees the architectural heritage of the Flaminio Stadium.

These factors will be evaluated by the relevant authorities, leaving all options open for the involved parties. As the competition unfolds, both Lazio and Roma Nuoto await the final decision on the future of the iconic Flaminio Stadium.
