Fonseca: Milan Demonstrates Greater Defensive Stability, Leao’s Injury Minor

Following AC Milan’s narrow 1-0 victory against Hellas Verona, manager Paulo Fonseca shared his thoughts on the team’s performance and provided an update on Rafael Leao’s condition. Despite missing several key players due to injuries, Milan managed to secure a crucial win away from home.

Fonseca acknowledged the team’s sluggish start, attributing it to the absence of important players and recent poor form. However, he praised the squad’s ability to dominate possession and limit Verona’s chances, even if their attacking play lacked aggression in the final third.

The coach expressed satisfaction with the clean sheet and improved defensive stability, highlighting the strong performances of center-backs Gabbia and Thiaw, as well as midfielders Fofana and Terracciano in shielding the defense. Fonseca emphasized the importance of this defensive solidity in building attacking confidence.

Regarding Rafael Leao’s early substitution due to a potential injury, Fonseca reassured fans, stating he had spoken with the player and it appeared to be nothing serious. The substitution was described as a precautionary measure to avoid risking further damage.

Fonseca also addressed the team’s injury situation, explaining that while some issues were beyond their control, such as illnesses and injuries sustained during international duty, they were focusing on managing the recoveries of players like Musah and Loftus-Cheek.

Despite the victory, tension remains high among Milan supporters, with fans continuing to voice their dissatisfaction with the club’s ownership during and after the match. However, a recent statement confirming a refinancing deal with Elliott until 2028 suggests that significant changes in ownership are unlikely in the near future.
