Milan Coach Fonseca Comments on Team Selection for Hellas Verona Match
As Milan prepares to face Hellas Verona in the 17th round of Serie A, coach Paulo Fonseca has made some interesting lineup choices. Speaking to DAZN before the match, Fonseca explained his decisions regarding key players.
When asked about not using two strikers, Fonseca cited both tactical and squad depth reasons. He emphasized Morata’s unique ability to contribute defensively and play as a false nine, unlike other forwards like Abraham and Camarda.
Regarding Theo Hernandez’s absence from the starting lineup, Fonseca praised Alex Jimenez’s recent performance and stated that it’s appropriate for him to continue playing. He indicated that Hernandez needs more time before returning to the starting eleven, citing physical considerations.
Fonseca also discussed his decision to play Filippo Terracciano in midfield. He highlighted Terracciano’s versatility and intelligence, noting that he has trained extensively in the midfield role. Given the aggressive, man-marking style of their opponents, Fonseca believes Terracciano is the right choice to start the match.
