AC Milan President Unveils Initial Plans for New Stadium
AC Milan President Paolo Scaroni has revealed that the club’s main focus is now on constructing a new stadium in the San Siro area, relegating the San Donato project to a secondary option.
In a recent interview with Radio Serie A, Scaroni provided an update on Milan’s stadium plans, emphasizing the club’s intention to build a new venue alongside their city rivals, Inter Milan. “We’re currently working on the same project from 2018. Six years have passed without progress,” Scaroni stated.
The Milan president addressed concerns about the iconic status of San Siro, asserting that it’s the clubs, not the stadium, that are truly iconic. He highlighted the need for a modern facility, saying, “The people of Milan have realized that watching matches in the same place as their grandfathers and fathers is nostalgic, but no longer practical.”
Scaroni also discussed the financial implications of the project, including the potential €200 million cost for Milan and Inter to acquire the San Siro area. He expressed optimism about the process, thanking the Mayor for initiating new procedures that would allow the clubs to purchase the stadium and obtain necessary building permits.
Regarding the previously considered San Donato project, Scaroni explained that it has become a backup plan since restrictions on building near the Meazza were lifted. The club has already invested over €40 million in land in that area, but its fate remains uncertain given the renewed focus on San Siro.
The AC Milan president also touched on the club’s financial strategy, emphasizing the importance of sustainability in line with UEFA regulations. He reassured fans of the club’s commitment to success, stating, “We’re here to win, and I urge our supporters to trust us because we aim to win every match.”
Scaroni concluded by addressing Italy’s ban on football betting advertisements, suggesting that allowing clubs to benefit from betting revenues could provide additional funds for acquiring top players and improving the overall quality of Italian football.
