PSG Initiates Discussions with Bournemouth Defender Ilya Zabarnyi
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly set its sights on Bournemouth’s 22-year-old center-back Ilya Zabarnyi. The French club is actively seeking a right-footed defender to potentially serve as both an understudy and future replacement for their captain Marquinhos, who will turn 31 next year.
Despite Marquinhos’ contract with PSG extending until 2028, Saudi clubs have shown interest in acquiring the Brazilian defender. This situation has prompted PSG to explore other options, with Zabarnyi emerging as a prime candidate.
The Ukrainian international has impressed in the Premier League, featuring in every minute of Bournemouth’s campaign this season. PSG’s sporting advisor is particularly interested in Zabarnyi’s profile, as he fits the criteria of an experienced, strong defender who is young enough to adapt to Luis Enrique’s tactical system.
Initial conversations between PSG and Zabarnyi have reportedly taken place. However, a potential obstacle in this transfer could be the presence of Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov in the PSG squad, given the current geopolitical tensions between Ukraine and Russia.
As Milan Skriniar is expected to depart from PSG, the club’s pursuit of a right-footed center-back has intensified, making Zabarnyi an attractive prospect for the Parisian team.
